After finishing a blog post reflecting on 2016, I started to think up some goals for 2017. Goal setting is something I continuously do, and I find it helps to write it down. I did a post on my bucket list for last summer, and publishing that made me constantly think about the things I want to do. This year, my resolutions center around becoming a better, more holistic person. Here are my top five goals for the new year.
New Year Resolutions
1. Read More
I mentioned in my Christmas wish list that I really want to read more in the new year. Right now, I’m reading Aziz Ansari’s Modern Romance and I can hardly put it down. It’s hilarious, smart, and interesting–I just can’t get enough. With this goal in mind, I added How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are, Milk and Honey, and The Girl on the Train to my collection. To be realistic with school and homework, I want to read at least one book a month in 2017.
2. Maintain Friendships
Looking back on the first day of 2016, I realize my friendships were so different. Some friendships fizzled for reasons out of my control, but with some friends I simply lost contact. I don’t want this to happen in 2017, so I am making it my resolution to keep up my friendships and make an effort to stay in contact and hang out with my friends.
3. Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle
An easier resolution would be to simply lose weight. However, in 2017 I really want to change my way of life and adopt a healthier lifestyle. This would include eating right, working out, and making better lifestyle choices. I’ve been super into healthy eating blogs and YouTubers lately, which is a great motivator if any readers need one!
4. Become Financially Responsible
I would say irresponsible spending is one of my greatest flaws. I (somehow) want to start budgeting and saving. After all, by the end of 2017, I will only have one semester of college left, then it’s time for the real world.
5. Become More Outgoing
At times I can be extroverted, but I would describe myself as an introvert. I’m not good at initiating conversations–especially with people I don’t know or don’t know well. I really want to push myself outside my comfort zone in 2017 and become more outgoing.
Hopefully at the end of 2017, I can reference this post and gladly announce in a 2017 reflection post that I succeeded in accomplishing my goals. Stay tuned until then. x
